I almost didn’t bother with doing ANY maternity photos for Vivienne’s pregnancy. We had done some DIY ones when I was pregnant with Nora, and I had been really happy with them. But this time around, we didn’t have much time for such things—plus, with Nora, I knew it would be even more challenging to try to do them with a self-timer and all—so I figured we would just let it go. It was Michael who convinced me that we should bite the bullet and hire someone, simply so we would never have any regrets about it.

And you know what else? They also ended up being our last family photos of just the three of us, so I’m really glad we went for it.

Our first attempt at the shoot got rained out with bad thunderstorms. Our second, although a beautiful evening, was ungodly hot and humid (that’s July for you!), but we managed. If it weren’t for my frizzy hair you’d probably never know, ha!

We did a package with our photographer for both maternity and newborn photos, so we ended up getting all of the pics back at the same time. I love them! Here are some maternity pics to share. Newborn pics later this week! :)

These are lovely Heather! What special moments for you 3.5!! =) You’ll never regret having these

    • Heather says:

Thank you, Hannah. :) Very sweet. And yes–I’ve learned in the past 3 years that it is ALWAYS worth it to hire someone to take pics. ALWAYS. Even if you have a good camera, even if you can take pics yourself, even if you have 100,000 photos of your kids already. We’ve only been doing them once a year, and I don’t know if that’s even enough. The pics are priceless!

it kills me to say this but it seems like you surely favor Nora and Viv is a second best to the point she appears to be a bother..i have followed you from day one so it is just something I am picking up through your posts….

    • Are you kidding me, Betty? You couldn’t be more off base. Do you have children? And if so, do you favor one over the other? I have a really hard time believing a mother could ever say such a thing, so I’m going to go ahead and assume you don’t have kids.

My pregnancy with Vivienne was not fun. At all. I didn’t enjoy it. But that has nothing to do with the child who ultimately came out. She was absolutely worth it, and I would do it all again to have her.

If you’re referring to how I didn’t want to do maternity photos this time–I didn’t feel I could do them myself and I was hesitant to spend the money. JUST like I didn’t want to spend the money with Nora (which is why we did them ourselves, understand??). In fact, if anyone is favored in this situation it is Vivienne, because we spent money to have pro pics of both maternity and newborn. (I never hired anyone to take newborn pics of Nora. Again, I took pics myself.)

You have no idea what you are talking about.

    • Heather says:

Also, I’m a bit floored how you think you could make such a judgment based on approximately 15 blog posts over the course of the last 7 weeks. That’s like two posts per week, and what, you now suddenly have a complete understanding of my love for and relationship with each of my kids? And did you conveniently skip over my first monthly “love letter” to Vivienne in which I talk about how much I love her, cherish her, etc.?

I mean, what on earth would ever possess you to leave a comment like this?

Shut up, Betty. Just shut up.

      • Loni says:

Long-time reader, who rarely comments, but just had to chime in to say that I have gotten absolutely no indication of what Betty is referring to! What a ridiculous (and mean-spirited) thing to post! You’re a great mom, Heather, and it’s very obvious to (99% of, I guess) your readers that you adore both of your girls. Don’t give that comment another thought! Beautiful pics, beautiful family. :)

    • Kate says:

Sorry, betty, but your comment is unfounded. And highly illogical. And just plain rude.

    • Lisa J says:

Yup….Heather is completely playing favorites and doesn’t like Vivienne at all. Alls she does is play with Nora all day while Vivienne cries in the other room. Yup that’s it. Oh wait….I forgot….she sends Nora to daycare to keep with her routine AND so she can bond with Vivienne, so she can have one on one time with her.

Obviously you are not a mother because you don’t understand how you can possibly love two little people equally and as much as you do as a mother. Your love for your first doesn’t get smaller when your second is born, your heart somehow gets bigger. Before your second arrives, you feel sad you will no longer be a family of 3 and that your first will no longer be the baby. But after the second arrives, your heart explodes and you can’t remember what life was like without them. Your love for each of your children will never be the same…in that there are different things you love about each child.

My first baby made me a mother. My second baby humbled me and made me a better mother. Each of my children have shaped me in some way or form. They continually make me want to be a better person, wife and mother. I cannot imagine life without either.

A few more things Betty. Nora is three….there are funny stories to share about Nora because she is more active. Vivienne is a newborn….there are not a whole lot of anecdotal stories to share….yet. And the final thing, you are an idiot! How you gathered (from a few blog posts) that Heather favors Nora and basically despises Vivienne is beyond me. You were just being a menace.

Heather please pay no attention to Betty. Don’t let this deter you from sharing your beautiful family with your loyal readers.

  3. Kate says:

All these shots are adorable, but that one of you and Nora in B&W (where she’s hugging your baby bump) is downright precious. What a beautiful family!

  4. Um are you kidding me, Betty? Rude and wrong.

  5. Melissa says:

Suck it Betty. That is so inappropriate and wrong. To even begin to think you know someone from following a blog and looking at pictures is making a pretty big presumption. And you know what they say when you assume. I think you need to step away from the computer and go do something more useful with your time than making a mom feel bad for no reason.

  6. Michelle says:

Ummmmm, what the hell is Betty reading? Heather, please don’t take that comment to heart. Obviously “Betty” is going through something in her own life and is reading your blog posts with her screwed up view of the world. I read NOTHING in your posts that shows anything but complete adoration for your baby! Also, Viv is a newborn and Nora is 3! What a difference in development. You can’t talk about both kids in the same way, obviously.
These pictures are gorgeous and you are a wonderful mother.

  7. Jamie says:

I love all the pics! And I love that dress too!

    P.S. Betty is an idiot.

  8. Kristen says:

Both of your girls are so lucky to have you as their mommy, Heather, and the love you have for them shines through your writing. I know it must be hurtful to read, but don’t give Betty (or an of her ilk) a second thought. :)

  9. Lucci says:

I agree with others- Betty has no idea what she is talking about. I wonder if she just said that to be provocative and annoying? I have read your blog since your first pregnancy and I don’t remotely sense what Betty claims she does. It is nonsense and purposely hurtful.

  10. cashew6300 says:

I smiled reading this entire post and then I get to Betty’s comment. REALLY!! Get a friggin life! Heather you should not concern yourself with the idiots of this world. The rest of us have fallen in love with you and your family over the past few years and enjoy the candid way you talk about your life. I truly enjoyed the pictures. Please continue to post like you always do :)

  11. Michelle says:

Beautiful pictures! And boooo to Betty!
